Who Am I
Who am I
I am the one hidden behind a veil of deception
Yes it is true I have an attacker that I didn’t ask for yet invades my body
What is this you ask that has set me beyond touch or another’s affection…compassion
It’s called…HIV
Although my name differs that is what I am called now
Although it’s not obtain by touch I am shunned now
Look into my eyes and tell me what you see
It’s an outward appearance of you yet why when all is revealed does it transform
Why does it alter who I am for I am created as you?
HIV is not who I am neither is AIDS
It is merely an inheritance I carry
Who am I
I am a creation, fashioned in just the same ways as you
I look out into the distance as you with a passion for life, I dream as you dream
I am the face of innocence that urns for the touch of just one that might understand
I am the expression of laughter and a countenance of joy
I am a life that breaths as you yet when I cry out into the distance it returns to me in an echo
So as all find their ways to their peace, I search for mine
Then in a moment a hand reaches out and as I turn the warmth of their eyes capture my soul
Here it is …
I can go to find rest from a world that fears what they choose not to understand
peace shields me from the shame the lack of knowledge has brought upon me
my soul finds tranquility long enough to regain a recollection of who it is that I am and what the world says
I call it H.O.M.E.
A place that for all time has an open door to my sanctuary
A place where love is their heart beat and I can be me
A place where they see their face is a true expression of mine
A place where their dream is my own
I call it H.O.M.E
